I'm thinking of starting a rendezvous (fur trade) club. It would be limited to the Southwest Fur Trade, predominately the Santa Fe Trail era. I attempted to join the American Mountain Men, and actually got a hold of a person in OK, who promised to get me on the mailing list for their newsletter, but it didnt happen. Anyone in the Southwest US interested in helping me get something like this going?

Unfortunately due to current conditions I will probably only be able to bring a propane forge---not very medieval but fire restrictions tend to be harsh out here when it's in the 90's, strong wind and the year's total of rain so far is 0.38".

So camping Wednesday-Monday with the forge.

in case anyone was wondering i have a method of darkening brass i found out many years ago when i was commission to darken about 200 brass cabnet fittings for a restaraunt
you need:

2 parts household bleach
2 parts white vineger
1/2 part lemon juice
1 9volt battery
2 copper wires
glass bowl

method:

What are the basic dimentions of an arrow shaft for a basic Yew Bow. I realize the lenght is dependant upon the Bow and draw of the user, but what's the range to start off with if I cut a dozen or two of theses saplings.

Just thought I would share the portable blacksmith shop I have been putting together for the Celtic group Gaesatae. Like most things, it is still a work in progress. These pictures were taken at the Calavares Celtic Faire out here in California on the 10th and 11th of this month. The whole setup breaks down and fits in the back of my truck with room to spare.
