Hi folks,

I'm thinking of starting a rendezvous (fur trade) club. It would be limited to the Southwest Fur Trade, predominately the Santa Fe Trail era. I attempted
to join the American Mountain Men, and actually got a hold of a person in OK, who promised to get me on the mailing list for their newsletter, but it didnt
happen. Anyone in the Southwest US interested in helping me get something like this going?

Next week I leave for Grand Outlandish an SCA even here in NM.

Unfortunately due to current conditions I will probably only be able to bring a propane forge---not very medieval but fire restrictions tend to be harsh out
here when it's in the 90's, strong wind and the year's total of rain so far is 0.38".

So camping Wednesday-Monday with the forge.

Y'all have fun too!

One of my students is making a viking style spear point for a historical group contest and I'm pushing him to do it *right*.

The core is a pattern welded billet, twisted and for the edge I had him pound out some 1" dia wrought iron into 1/4" thick strap that was pounded
into a good sized piece of pipe with the back end sealed and filled with powdered charcoal and then the open end folded over hot and mostly sealed with the
hammer and then popped into the gas forge...

I was wondering about any ideas for portable shelters to use when at a reenactment or demo I've already spent a hot muggy day under the sun here in early
August in Nebraska and really didn't care for it, and would also like some rain protection. I thought a teepee would be great they are designed for a
center fire and the lighting or lack there of would be good, but getting people in could get cramped, and a little to close. Any thoughts?
