This is a non-welding/wrapping technique.
Special thanks to Ray Richard for letting me pick his brain for an entire weekend. That Hammerin' cost me over $300 to go to so I hope it can benefit more people then just me.
Another way to make the start slit is to drill the 3, 1/4" holes then plug them with 1/4" mild steel. Then drill between the holes and punch the plugs out. You will have much less to file out doing that way. Since the slit will be drifted out it doesn't have to look nice
